This specialty tea from China comes from a small plantation in Fenggang County, Guizhou Province. The plantation’s remoteness, subtropical climate and elevation (over 700m) has ensured exquisite artisan tea production for over a century.
In early Spring, the leaf (budset) is plucked by hand, gently dried then pan roasted in heating basins. The tea leaf takes on a ball shape as during the roasting process the artisan will use his/her hand to slowly stir the leaves and then roll them up along the sides of the basin.
In 2010, we had the good fortune to visit this plantation and witness the organic tea production and the care taken during their highly skilled manufacturing process.
